Each May, the U.S. Administration on Aging celebrates the achievements and contributions of Older Americans. I believe that this year’s theme, Never Too Old to Play, challenges us all to actively engage with Older Adults throughout the year. Are you ready to get out there and play? By staying active, we all benefit both mentally and physically.
On a personal note, I know that my Mother, age 76, enjoys staying active and always feels better about life when she meets new people and tries new things. One of her favorite activities is cheering on the Phillies while enjoying a delicious hotdog! Hmmmm, I wonder if she will take a language class with me…perhaps if there is a hotdog involved!
Here are some ideas for Older Americans Month that you might want to try:
- Intergenerational Wii Bowling Tournament
- Visit your local Senior Center
- Sporting events
- Join a health and fitness program-Chair Yoga or Zumba Gold
- Be a lunch monitor
- Become a member of a travel or garden club

Challenge yourself to try something new this month! I know you can do it! Ask a friend to join in on the fun so that you have new things to talk about and create new memories. You just have to remember that you are Never Too Old to Play! HAVE FUN!!!
