She’s someone you know….

She's someone you know...

She wears long sleeves in the summer heat
Doesn’t make eye contact with people she meets
She keeps to herself, rarely ventures outside
Her curtains are closed, she has something to hide.
She may be a neighborhood child you watched grow
But trust me on this, she is someone you know.

She wears dark glasses and collars up high
When she’s alone she feels safest to cry.
She feels so lost and completely alone
Her prison surrounds her, her prison is home.
She may be the big sister who helped you to grow
But trust me on this, she is someone you know.

She wraps her arms around herself tight
Barely whispers her words and won’t sleep at night.
She cringes and jumps and seems scattered at best
Her body, her soul are never at rest.
She may be the daughter with pride you watched grow
But trust me on this, she is someone you know.

She stands beside you in the grocery store line
She serves you your meals and pours you your wine.
She delivers your mail, she alters your clothes
She cuts your hair and she paints your toes.
She drives your bus, she plows your snow,
But trust me on this, she is someone you know.

You notice the signs, see the look in her eyes
You hear her small voice and the muffled cries
You smile as you push up the sleeves on her shirt
You promise you’ll help her to end all the hurt
You hold her gently and you don’t let her go
For trust me on this, she is someone you know.
