The statistics are almost unbelievable. One in three women will be assaulted or abused in her lifetime – that is ONE BILLION women. Just in the United States, between two and four million women are physically abused each year. Of these, 2,000 women die of the injuries they suffer. From domestic violence to sexual assault to human trafficking to harassment and intimidation, enough is enough!
On February 14, 2013, one billion people shook the earth by dancing to end violence against women and girls. One Billion Rising is a campaign of the global activist movement, V-Day, which was founded by Eve Ensler.
This February 14th, men, women, and children around the world will dance again and participate in One Billion Rising For Justice. WOMEN’S WAY in Philadelphia is giving all of us the chance to participate and celebrate the power that all communities have in ending all forms of gender-based violence!
From 2 – 3 p.m. at Love Park in Philadelphia, WOMEN’S WAY invites all who want to bring light to the epidemic of violence against women and girls to gather together and enjoy a free Zumba party, music, speakers, give-aways, and a community resource fair.
