I have the distinct and personal pleasure of calling Pastor Steve McComas of Lehman Church in Hatboro a dear friend. Not that long ago, he honored me by asking me if I would be willing to participate in a video for his sermon series. All I had to do – talk about where I see God in my work.
People often talk about the personal being political and the political personal. I would add a generous dash of faith to that. I’ve had those moments when I lay back and look up at the sky and at the wonder around me and I know that it is all much bigger than I. I see wonder in the faces of individuals that I stand side-by-side with. I hear it in their laughter and tears. It’s in the conversations and debates that I am fortunate to have with those whose opinions and lifestyles are similar to or divergent from mine. It’s in the joy of knowing that with every person I meet who is a little different from me, I can choose to let my world get bigger. And when the sun comes up in the morning and I can rise with it to begin a new day, I know that I am truly blessed.
My quick response to Pastor Steve’s question: in my work at A Woman’s Place, I believe God restores hope in the ability for everyone to truly flourish.
It can be scary to talk about one’s faith. In my quest to be more courageous and open, I have decided to share the video with you. Maybe you’ll get to know me a little better – good or bad. Maybe both of our worlds will get a little bigger.
WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IN?
