I’m thrilled to dedicate my Thursday space to the truly inspirational global movement ONE BILLION RISING.
For those of you who know me, I love a good soundtrack. I have soundtracks to my showers. I have soundtracks to my commute (these often include live productions of songs so that I can imagine crowds cheering me on while I drive to the office). I pull together a soundtrack when I cook or do yard work. I have soundtracks for Friday night dance parties with my daughters.
Here’s the thing – couple my love of a great song with the inspiration of a global movement to end violence against women and girls and I am beyond thrilled. Get up and dance! How can you not join in? Answer the call. Join Ethiopia, Kampala, Freetown, Denmark, Florida, San Francisco, Anchorage, George School… the world. Break the Chain.
As the song says, “I’m not afraid anymore…. I can see a world where we all live safe and free from all oppression. No more rape or incest, or abuse. Women are not a possession…. I dance cause I love. Dance cause I dream. Dance cause I’ve had enough. Dance to stop the screams. Dance to break the rules. Dance to stop the pain. Dance to turn it upside down. It’s time to break the chain.”
That’s why I rise.
I am rising. A Woman’s Place (AWP) is rising. Bucks County Playhouse is rising. The world is rising. Rise with us. Purchase your ticket to The Vagina Monologues, February 13-17, benefiting AWP. Dance. Strike. Rise. Whatever you do… don’t just sit there. Break the Chain.
